What migration patterns does eAppSys use?
eAppSys uses four patterns per workload. Rehost (lift-and-shift): moving VMs and databases to Azure IaaS with no application changes — fastest, lowest risk. Replatform: migrating to PaaS (Azure SQL MI, App Service) with minimal changes — reduces operational overhead. Refactor: redesigning as cloud-native microservices or serverless — maximum cloud benefit. Retire: decommissioning workloads no longer needed, reducing migration scope.
Azure Migrate is Microsoft’s hub for discovery, assessment, and migration of on-premises workloads. eAppSys deploys the Azure Migrate appliance for agentless discovery or installs the dependency agent for application dependency mapping. Azure Migrate generates right-sizing recommendations and TCO comparisons. eAppSys uses it alongside Azure Site Recovery (VM migration), Database Migration Service (SQL), and App Service Migration Assistant.
The path depends on compatibility. Azure SQL Managed Instance: near-100% SQL Server compatibility, suitable for SQL Agent, Service Broker, CLR, and linked servers. Azure SQL Database: for applications compatible with SQL Database’s feature set. SQL Server on Azure VM: full SQL Server instance for workloads with specific feature dependencies. eAppSys uses Azure Database Migration Service and Data Migration Assistant for all SQL Server migrations.
Yes — three patterns. Oracle EBS or Database on Azure IaaS: lift-and-shift to Azure VM. OCI + Azure hybrid: Oracle workloads on OCI connected to Azure via Oracle Cloud Interconnect — Oracle-optimised infrastructure with Azure for the surrounding estate. Oracle to Azure-native: migrating Oracle Database to Azure SQL or PostgreSQL where the application can be adapted. eAppSys advises on the right pattern per workload.
Post-migration deliverables include: Azure Monitor alerts and dashboards; Azure Backup policies for VMs, SQL, and Azure Files; Defender for Cloud security baseline; Azure Update Manager for OS patching; a cost optimisation report with right-sizing and Reserved Instance recommendations within 90 days; and updated architecture documentation, runbooks, and an operations handover guide.
